Poem for the Day
(week, month, whenever I put a new one on!)

A Model Sonnet
by Carter M Adler
5 January, 2001

Though I can never think of what to write,
A topic always seems to elude me,
A subject suited to my poetry,
To keep the reader wide awake all night;
I struggle and I cast out for a theme
Anything to fill a pair of lines
Anything other than these simple whines!
And yet, for all my trials, for all my schemes
Perhaps a sonnet, telling of my plight!
They’re rhythmically and rhymically a fright,
But with the help of words minted newly
And creative pronouncing don’tcha see!
I can zoom through this sonnet as though it were some damn modern blank verse poem
Kids, don’t try this at home!
